FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DALLAS, April 25, 2014 – It was a tough, yet delicious, competition, and one team emerged as North Dallas Chamber of Commerce Big D BBQ Battle Grand Champion at the April 24 cook-off held at Valley View Center at Midtown. That distinction went to Frost Insurance Agency, who smoked the competition and also won first place brisket. This event benefited the North Texas Food Bank. See the event photos.

Top Dallas businesses sent their cooking teams to compete for bragging rights for best tasting barbecue, best dressed team and most enthusiastic competitor. More than 1500 attendees came to eat, drink and be merry with coworkers, colleagues, clients and friends at this opportunity to connect with other businesses and enjoy an evening of food, fun and live music by Lower 40.

All cooking teams had strong entries, and several companies earned accolades for top-notch culinary skills. Second place brisket went to Walton’s Home and Garden, while Casita Tex-Mex placed third. In the ribs category, Atmos Energy placed first, the joint teams of Hudson Peters Commercial Real Estate and Dallas Police Department placed second and BKM Sowan Horan placed third.  Childress Engineering took home the trophy for first place beans, while Oncor won second place and BKD LLP won third. Farmer Business Systems’ denim overalls, matching red shirts and cowboy boots earned it the title of Best Dressed Team, and Baker Brothers Plumbing’s creative cooking space décor and energetic team members won Most Enthusiastic.

Who determined the winners of this BBQ Battle? Our panel of celebrity judges, including former Dallas Morning News dining critic Dotty Griffith, Texas Monthly Barbecue Editor Daniel Vaughn, Dallas City Councilmembers Sheffie Kadane and Lee Kleinman, Dallas County Commissioners Mike Cantrell and Theresa Daniel and former NFL quarterback Brad Wright, among others.

Platinum sponsors were Valley View Center at Dallas Midtown and Legends 770 KAAM.
