The workforce of the future in Dallas will be powered by 5G
Dependable connectivity creates opportunities in places this would not be possible without reliable internet. In the US alone, as of September 2021, 45 percent of full-time employees are working from home either all or part of their time. Many companies are rethinking their workplace models to best suit their business. No matter where work takes place, the demand for data and reliable, fast connectivity will only grow.
Key to meeting this demand is building 5G communications infrastructure. This will be achieved through a combination of towers, small cells and fiber. Smaller than traditional cell phone towers, small cells can attach to existing poles and expand coverage and network capacity. Small cell networks are underpinned by lightning-fast fiber, which is a secure, adaptable, high-capacity network cable that moves data and voice at the speed of light.
5G also means new jobs. The telecommunications industry will invest billions of dollars in upgrading wireless infrastructure in communities across the country, which will create millions of jobs and lead to a faster growing economy. An estimated 8.5 million jobs will be created by 2025 as a result of 5G, contributing over $900 billion to the US economy. In Dallas, it is estimated that the 5G economy will generate $43 billion and create more than 115,000 new jobs. We will need skilled, trained workers to build the communications infrastructure the US needs.
Industry must take an active role to bridge the workforce gap and fill these critical jobs in communities like Dallas. Workforce development programs and investing in the people who will build 5G is crucial for local economic development.
The DFW area ranks third in the country for best places in the U.S for tech jobs, and the number of jobs in the field are expected to rise this year as well. Organizations in a wide variety of industries can take advantage of the huge pool of tech talent here in Dallas and stay ahead of the curve, setting themselves up for success as 5G innovation continues to revolutionize the workforce.
Just like airports, railroads, and highways generations ago, cutting-edge 5G communications infrastructure is what modern communities like Dallas need to stay competitive, today and in the future. Small cell and fiber technologies are the foundation of the next generation of wireless connectivity that empowers economic growth. By investing today in the connectivity needs of tomorrow, Dallas together with Crown Castle can ensure our local economy and workforce development remain highly competitive in Dallas, the nation, and the interconnected world.
